Section 1 - What do FLM's do? Roles and Responsibilities

The role of the FLM has changed dramatically in recent years as organizations and industries have themselves been forced to change in order to meet the differing needs of their customers and remain competitive. It is easy to see how some managers have become confused and are unsure of what their organization expects of them. By clarifying your understanding of what your organization and your colleagues expect of you will automatically lead to an increase in your effectiveness as a First Line Manager. Furthermore by clarifying with your team members what their understanding of their roles are and what you expect of them will in turn improve the effectiveness of your team.

Objectives

By the end of this section you should be able to:

bullet State your roles and responsibilities
bullet Agree with your team on its roles and responsibilities and identify any mismatches between the skills it possesses and those demanded by the job they do.
Identify improvements to your management information.
